MURREE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the revamped General Post Office (GPO) in Murree on Tuesday.

The GPO was given a 1960s look on directions from the prime minister and the renovations were done at a cost of Rs60 million.

Before the official inauguration, the prime minister was briefed about how the Pakistan Post works. The premier directed that new technology be used in helping people come closer and for providing ordinary people with modern facilities.

Addressing the people, the premier reminisced about his youth and said he used to sit on the GPO stairs on his visits to the hill station. He sat on the stairs again and mixed with the people.

He said the residents of Murree had always supported PML-N and asked the people to help him restore Murree’s historic charm.

He promised that many mega projects will be started in the hill station and said every house in Murree will be provided with natural gas soon. He vowed to build a modern university, a state of the art hospital and a good water supply system. The prime minister also pledged to end electricity crisis in the country in the next two years.

The prime minister said that during his years in exile, the then government had damaged Murree’s look and that many highrise buildings had been erected in violation of the by-laws.

Accompanying the premier on the occasion were Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed, Petroleum Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Senator Saleem Zia, MNA Hamza Shahbaz and Provincial Minister Raja Ashfaq Sarwar.
