GILGIT: Police registered a case here on Tuesday against a married couple for having been involved in “immoral activities” at a public place.

Police arrested the young man and woman — both from Lahore — near a bus station on Monday night.

According to a police official, the couple informed police that they contracted court marriage on Nov 14. They said they had left Lahore because there were threats to their lives as they contracted marriage against the wishes of their parents and that they had arrived in Gilgit-Baltistan to seek protection.

He said the couple had shown to police documents of their marriage contract. The couple would be presented before a court on Wednesday.

On the other hand, a team of the Punjab Police has arrived in Gilgit in search of the couple.

According to the official, the mother of the woman has lodged a complaint with police that her daughter has been kidnapped.
