QUETTA: Suspected militants killed two policemen in Quetta's Sariab road area on Monday.

"Armed assailants opened fire at a police check post in Bibi Nanai area of Sariab road," said a police official.

One policeman was killed on the spot, and another succumbed to his wounds on the way to the hospital.

The bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital for a post mortem.

"The assailants escaped from the scene of the incident," added that police official.

Police officials and personnel from the Frontier Corps reached the site of the attack and began an investigation in to the incident.

No group or individual has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Police sources believe the incident was an act of targeted killing.

Balochistan has been experiencing incident violence and targeted killings since more than a decade. The largest province of the country by area, is home to a low-level insurgency by ethnic Baloch separatists.

Al Qaeda-linked militants also operate in the region.
