LJ activist arrested in Multan

MULTAN, Nov 3: An activist of the outlawed Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, who allegedly was involved in three murders and carrying Rs0.5 million bounty on his head, had been arrested, said Multan DPO Hamid Mukhtar Gondal at a press conference on Monday.

Qasim alias Amir Khan, a resident of Jallah Arain (Lodhran district), was presented before the journalists. He confessed to have murdered trader Javed Ali Shah at Mailsi, Bahawalpur DSP Kausar Abbas Gillani and a former bank officer, Ghulam Punjtan Kazmi, at Gulgasht in Multan on Jan 26, 2001, Aug 27, 2001 and March 8, 2002, respectively.

His accomplices in the three incidents included Usman, Safdar alias Mama, Abdur Rahman alias Manaf and Shahabuddin.

The DPO said he had recommended cash awards and promotions to the Punjab IGP for the members of the team, which had arrested the accused.—APP
