LAHORE: The University of Engineering and Technology (UET) is developing a liaison between academia and industry, resulting in reduction in unemployment, says its vice chancellor Fazal Ahmad Khalid.

He was speaking at the 22nd convocation of the UET on Monday.

Governor Rafique Rajwana, who was the chief guest at the convocation, could not reach there from Multan reportedly because of inclement weather.

Dr Khalid briefed the participants on the performance of the UET in research, training, construction, expansion, development of curriculum, and different memorandums of understanding with various organisations for various activities at the varsity.

Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Chairman Javed Saleem Qureshi said the PEC had started issuing supervisory certificates without any fee for one year which would create almost 10,000 jobs in market for engineers.

Degrees were awarded to more than 1,600 students, including13 PhD, 53 MPhil, 187 MSc, 44 MBA and 1,380 bachelor’s graduates. Fifty-eight medals were also awarded.

Sharia Hussaini, an Iranian, got PhD in Architecture. Ayesha Liaqat from the Chemical Engineering and Hafiz Ahmad Waqas from the Civil Engineering got six gold medals each.

PU: Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran on Monday inaugurated the Zoological Museum at the university.

“The museum will provide excellent research facilities to students of paleontology, animal diversity, wildlife, taxonomy, systematics and ecology. It will also help provide general education and recreation facilities to students and visitors having their educational background in the disciplines of Zoology and Biology,” an official said.

He said the display areas in the museum would cover various topics such as paleontology, exotic mammals, marine fauna, insects, shells and birds besides human and animals’ evolution.
