3rd T20: New Zealand hammer Pakistan by 95 runs to win T20 series

WELLINGTON: Corey Anderson whacked a career-best 82 not out and followed up with two wickets as New Zealand demolished Pakistan by 95 runs in their deciding Twenty20 in Wellington on Friday.
New Zealand wrapped up the series 2-1 after being sent into bat and making an imposing 196 before rolling Pakistan for 101 in the 17th over.
The comprehensive victory marked the return of burly all-rounder Anderson to his best after he missed the first half of the New Zealand summer because of injury.

His man-of-the match 82 off 42 deliveries was backed by Grant Elliott taking three for seven, Adam Milne three for eight and his own two for 17 as Pakistan imploded.
Anderson's lack of cricket was evident in a rocky start to his innings when he went to the crease with New Zealand at 62-2 after seven overs.
He had 15 off 10 at the end of the 11th over when New Zealand lost their two senior batsmen in quick succession with Kane Williamson out for 33 and Ross Taylor retired hurt for six.
By the end of the 15th over, when New Zealand were 129-3 Anderson decided he had played himself at 36 off 23 balls and lashed out.
In the last five overs he faced 19 deliveries and bludgeoned 46 runs with his innings including four sixes and six fours.
He then set about carving through the Pakistan top order capturing Ahmed Shehzad for eight and Shoaib Malik for 14 before leaving the field with cramp.
Sarfraz Ahmed (41) and Malik were the only Pakistan batsmen to reach double figures as Elliott and Milne proved too difficult to handle in the daunting run chase.
When Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi won the toss he opted to bowl first, quoting the history of Westpac Stadium where the six previous Twenty20 matches had all been won batting second and the highest score Twenty20 total at the ground was 163.
But statistics did not stop Martin Guptill and Williamson making another flying start putting on 57 in six overs.
When Afridi brought himself on he captured Guptill in his first over with the New Zealand opener having made 42 off 19 deliveries.
Colin Munro only faced three balls before he ran himself to bring Anderson to the crease and Pakistan's hopes of salvaging the series disappeared.
Wahab Riaz was the most successful of the Pakistan bowlers with two for 43.
New Zealand and Pakistan play the first of three one-day internationals in Wellington on Monday.

As expected. This is no news. Pakistan is famous losers, who after every loosing game get prepared for next defeat, but than, that defeat is 'bahaduri say balla ghumatay hueay' and batsmen complaining that it is not their fault that they get out, it is fault of the ball that took their wicket, reminding us that they are special breed who have contacts, connections, and strings, so don't talk that they played bad or that they should be dropped, rather Pakistanis who build-up hopes considering the team as theirs, can go to hell, who cares?

Stop investing in cricket - these guys are wasting not only precious money but also hopes of the nation hanging on a thin line.
Squash, hockey, and few others sports and their players are dying to get funding. They truly deserve due attention and will surely do far better than these heavily paid commercial minded guys who like be more focused on advertisements rather concentrating on the game and fitness.
Either they are incapable or callous to what the whole nation goes through after seeing below club cricket level performance.

There is difference between Indian loss and Pakistani loss. In all 4 games India lost from a winning position. Especially in the last game - they worked very hard for their defeat. Indian defeat is due to lack of ability to handle pressure. But Pakistan's defeat is purely because of lack of quality. Apart from one odd win in 1st T20, in other 2, they never looked like they were going to win.
There was a time when we used to fear Pakistani team. Now we (rather everyone) laugh at it.

This series against a quality opposition had exposed poor selection, inept fast bowling and unimpressive batting.
Since Waqar Yunus had become the head coach the fast bowling which was once pride of our team has looked like a mediocre club unit. No reverse swing, Yorkers nor any change of pace .
We would also like to know about the role of Mushtaq Ahmed with Pakistan cricket team as spin bowling is also on the decline.
Pakistan needs a modern coach for its ODI and T20 teams to compete with the best and I am sorry to say that Waqar and co does not fill the need.

New Zealand is too good on its home soil. Strongest and mighty teams also have a thrash by Kiwis in the past. remember the WC2015 semi final against SA, they posted the total of 290+ in just 43 overs and Kiwis got this against Steyne & co. Aus. World Champion Aus was also beaten by them in a narrow match in 2015 wc. So it is not a matter of worry, every body will see how good they are in upcoming T20 wc in India. Kiwi-Aus series in Feb. will also be the test of Kiwis on their home soil. Lets see who is better of 2015 wc finalists.

Team Pakistan is exactly doing all such replacements from a year or two but fail to produce a team with consistent good results. Please take a break with your cricket obsession and let them done with their experiments. No question mark over the talent but Couple of thing missing in these guys, a cool head (Psychiatrist needed no Cricketing coach) and the ability to adapt according to situation. Everybody should just take a chill pill and calm down. Let's see how they perform in wt20 in India. It's there home ground. They are going to be hammered in India. This sort of ruthless batting is not going to work in Indian slow pitches. Poor spin bowlers have no chance. They can play the pace no doubt but see what happens. Please support your team. It's only a game. I am upset too but there is nothing they can do but to improve for next tournament. I agree with many about Ahmad Afridi ohh sorry Ahmad Shahzad. He needs some rest..

Can any of the Pak fans tell me why Selectors keep picking Shahzad in ODI and T20s???And why people call him aggressive and attacking opener?His strike rate in ODI is 73 which is the worst in the world and 115 in T20...I mean when you have options like nauman anwar,sharjeel khan,mukhtar ahmad who all have a strike rate of above 140 then y stick with shahzad??even in ODI Sami aslam is the perfect choice then him..Selectors very very harshly treated aslam and i think they have destroyed a promising career when they dropped him just after ONE odi in which he scored 45 V BAN...

I have been saying for the long time, please remove Ahmed Shazad, and Hafeez. Replace them with Sarfraz and Rizwan as the openers. Both are complete batsmen, and they have every shot in their book. Out of 10 matches, I believe they do best than ever done before in any format of the match. Having them as opener has no risk like with Ahmed Shazad and Hafeez as Ahmed Shazad cannot rotate strikes even in Twenty20, and Hafeez score depends on the day. Sarfraz and Rizwan are complete batsmen, no such deficieny or risk with them. Moreover relatively young and has long way to go. This chane shall be starting point. What do you think boys?

You also wrote that "India has been scoring above 300 consistently in Australia this series and losing" What does it say about Indian bowling attack ? Also you are looking at batsmen's individuals records . In cricket team victory is a lot more important than individual records. Cricket is played to win where record are made cricket is not played for records. How often India has won outside India ?
How does it make you feel that India is such a big country where everybody loves cricket but there has never been a genuine fast bowler but Pakistan has had a number of very fast bowlers .

This result was expected. We live in a corrupt society where merit is overlooked and 'sifarish' prevails. Hafeez, Ahmed shehzad, Umer Akmal, Sohaib Maqsood and Shahid Afridi do not deserve to be in the team on performances in 2015. In T20's of 2015 Afridi, Hafeez and Sohaib's average was around 15 and Shehzad and Akmal averaged around 20. One wonders who selected them after such performances. Even players from Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Afghanistan fared better than them not to speak of players from Australia, New Zealand, India, South Africa and England.

Sarfarz Ahmed must replace Afridi for Captain. Afridi is a good player nut not a Captain. Like NZ he is also nationalist. Nawaz Sharif see only central Punjab for development and Afridi sees KP.
Rizwan, Ahmed Shezad, Anwar Ali, Umar Gul, Ifthikar and Afridi all are pusthoo speakers. They all were in current T 20 team. You decided who was on merit.

And we haven't had good bowlers for a long time just like Pakistan hasn't produced a good batsman for a long time. And people say that Pakistan is the most talented cricketing country in the world. Where's the talent? You were almost bowled out for less than a hundred today. Don't forget this the same captain and more or less the same team which has so far won The T20 world cup, 2011 ODI world cup, the Champions trophy, the bilateral series in Australia among others. India is the only country which has won all the ICC world events and that's not a small feat.

@Karachi Wala I don't think you watched the match. Iftikhar didn't play a single match in this series. Ahmed Shahzad is from lahore (there is not enough evidence he is pashtun). Afridi has always played from Karachi. Now you would be thinking coach and selection panels are from kpk as well. I am sure I have watched more cricket than you and I even didn't think a single time who is being selected from which province. Now for God sake atleast keep cricket away from provincial controversies.

Main issue with Pakistan batting is attempts to hit six, they are not as strong and the ball does not go out of field; another issue is they do not scan the field and balls end up in hand of fielder either in air or on ground. Third issue is Afridi who just attempt to hit every ball for six for self pride, well if you look his 50 games he is hardly successful in 1-2 games. Pakistan fielding is excellent, bowling is average, may be another quality spinner will be helpful. They will do good if they stop attempting six, scan the fielders and look for gaps to make play, stop rushing mode of play and another quality spinner is needed.

My God,what a pasting.Congrats to Kiwis for winning the series.they have a very balanced team.Bad dicision by PAK to bowl first.Pakistan is terrible at chasing.however,I can live with 1-2 result.Pakistan need to re-focus quickly for the ODI series.Condisions at world-cup will be tottaly different & hopefully the results too.Best of luck Team Green:)

@Karachi Wala Please don't bring ethnicity into it. You want Sarfraz to captain Pakistan T20 team but if you look at his record in T20's it is worse than the other players you mentioned. In 2015 he averaged just 11.5 in T20's. Yes his record is better in tests but he cannot replace Misbah. If you want him to be the captain of T20 team on his performance in tests then what about Younis Khan who is the best Pakistani test player.

The only mistake New Zealand made before world cup T20 is not testing there spinners in this series.Use of pacers and medium pacers is not going to help them in Indian condition.It will be different ball game for them in Indian subcontinent.Not sure how did they missed it.

@Adeel Amir was fine ,it takes time to adjust to alien condition.Don't expect them to just land and create miracles.NZ are good at making tailor made pitches as per there strength.No harm in same but Pakistan are only team not playing at home.So it is big disadvantage for Pakistan team in all form of cricket.One of key thing in T20 is fielding and Pakistan was well short of International standard.Unless they put more effort in fielding things not going to help.

@Sarah - uhhhh 5-0 drubbing by Australia? I don't know which world you live in but here on earth, India has won the last game against Australia. It was a record chase by any visiting team down under. Don't be a troll just for the sake of it. Have logic in your arguments or else no one will take you seriously. Concurrently Indian batsmen have scored more hundreds in this series alone than your batsmen did in the entire last year.
