DADU: Twenty-three couples tied the knot at a mass marriage ceremony in Sita Road town, 50 kilometres from here, on Sunday.

The ceremony was organised by Bilqis Razia Trust, which bore all expenses of dowry, including necessary household items, of each couple to help them start their new life.

Dr Sultan Ahmed Leghari of the trust said at the ceremony that a great many young women and men were not able to marry because of prevalent abject poverty in the area. So he took it upon himself to arrange marriages of the poor couples, he said.

Besides a large number of relatives of the brides and grooms and area people, veteran politician and former federal minister, Haji Zaffar Ali Leghari, former MPA Sharafunnisa Leghari, PPP leaders Qambar Ali Leghari, Ashraf Khan Solangi, Dr Naeem Ahmed Leghari and Ghulam Mustafa Chandio also attended the wedding party.
