FAISALABAD: The district government has issued notices to 75 educational institutions with a direction to improve their security.
The institutions include the University of Agriculture, the Government College University and the National Textile University.
Special teams of district administration headed by assistant commissioners and assisted by law-enforcement agencies visited 157 institutions and pointed out security lapses. They submitted their reports to the higher authorities and found flaws in the security arrangements at the UAF, GCUF, NTU and other institutions.
The district administration has asked all these institutions to complete their security arrangements otherwise cases will be registered against their heads.
The LEAs have made two categories of the institutions -- A+ and A -- to maintain security.
The Punjab Medical College and the University of Faisalabad (Sargodha Road) managements also failed to meet the security requirements.
An officer told this correspondent that the government must take action against the negligent institutions. He said after the Bacha Khan University attack, SOP for security measures had been issued and it was the responsibility of each institution to ensure its implementation.
District Coordination Officer Noorul Ameen Mengal told Dawn that advisory note had been issued to 75 private and state-run institutions with a direction to ensure flawless security. He said three institutes had been sealed.
Cases would be registered against the heads of the institutes and those in charge of security in case of their failure to follow the instructions.
City Police Officer Afzaal Kausar said the police had been conducting search operations in different areas to net the miscreants. He said the institutes had been given time to improve security according to their requirements and legal proceedings would be initiated against those who failed to comply with the guidelines.
He said Elite police teams had been deployed strategically in different areas of the district to respond as Quick Response Force.
