Indian car market, like the Indian economy has been the fastest growing car market in the world. No wonder a record 80 new car launches will take place here in this popular car show of the world.

India needs more and better roads for number of vehicles on major city roads. Car emission control standard should be to European standard then the pollution levels due to cars shall come down considerably. Indian manufactures make cars to Euorpean emission standards for export, why they don't make it for local market is strange. In this region we should have the same sensitivity to safety and pollution as in the west, at least few good things from west can be adopted here in south Asia.

Mighty India on the rise. This auto show is another proof of its might and growing middle class. Only USA and China can beat that.

India is poised to be the auto hub of the world. Now major auto companies are shifting their manufacturing facility to India for export of cars to Africa and east Asia.

Give me one cars name which India is manufacturing on it's soil , is good and is in demand all over the World. India's population is over a Billion stats say only a million are rich out of Billion . Out of the rich million only 15% that's a big maybe can afford such luxury and sports cars. No doubt that India is progressing at a fast pace but has a long way to go. Call me when people driving Nano's start buying $80000 Beemers.

The photos are mostly about imported vehicles in India except for Tata Zica. Auto Expo India majorly exhibits designed,manufactured in India which is real strength of India.

I just learned that the car (BMW 7 series) that Sachin is flaunting is made in India. It is manufactured in Chennai plant. That's quite interesting.

The best thing I like about auto expo is the launch of India centric products. Companies make products keeping in mind the indian customer and it becomes a global hit. Like street 750 was launched in last expo. This year ots honda who developed a 110 cc bike in India.

@Shujaat Khan You view of Indian car manufacturing industry is very outdated. Tata motors is a world renowned brand which happens to own the legendary Jaguar and Land Rover brands. Mahindra is also doing very good and exports its SUVs and tractors to Asia-Pacific region, Africa, South and Latin America and even USA. Improve your country if you feel bitter about India's rise. Bad mouthing and believing in propaganda will make you more bitter.

@Ravi Vancouver ... as far as I recall, Indian Emission standard (Bharat -3) was a bit more stringent than EURO-3 ... Now I think they have Bharat-4 (just as Europe has Euro-4) .... so Indian Govt Ensures that "New" Vehicles registered have better Emission standards .... but unfortunately, the cycle is incomplete as other ingredients for emission control, like petrol quality checks, recurring vehicle health check-up related to recurring (annual) registrations, etc., etc, .... these things make big holes in the original good step of stringent emission control on "new" vehicles. Once Indian Government plugs such loopholes, we can hope for a better air to breath in the air.

@bk The diffrence is most of the cars displayed here are made in India. Sadly there is no car manufacturer in Pakistan... India i belive is the third or second largest Automobile manufacturer in world...I know companies like - Suzuki, Honda, Toyota, BMW, Audi, Landrover (owned by tata), Jaguar (owned by tata), valkswagon, renault all make there cars in india and export in the whole world

Come to Pune city ,you will be shocked to see the amount of amazing cars here. Audis and BMWs are very common.

Not only the emission standards but safety features like crash test results are also important.Recently my friend wanted to buy Datson Go for its affordability and better features for a car of its price range but changed his mind after my advice since Datson Go failed miserably in crash test.Even world class Nissan is doing this is quit unfair.

@Shujaat Khan Mahinda Scorpio is sold in Australia, UK, Holland, Greece, Bangaldesh, Srilanka, Nepal etc. and many more; so also Indian made Sujuki Zen, Swift etc. Indian made Merc, Hundai are sold world over. India's car export is over 1 million per annum. India is now the largest producer in the world of small and mid size cars and 2 wheels of over a dozen brands. India is also the world's largest producer of bi cycles. Indian Tata, Ashok Leyland buses and trucks are running all over Africa and Latin America. By the way- Audi in India is called Char Chudi gadi and Merc the 'teen sitara gadi'- very popular in rural Punjab!! The list of achievements of India auto industry in last 20 years if phenomenal. By the way- I am from India's metal industry which services the needs of its auto industry.

FYI Pakistani friends: Mercedes, Renault, Suzuki, Volvo, Toyota, BMW, GM, Hyundai etc. along with India Car companies manufacture Cars in India and export few models to their parent countries and worldwide. Pune & Chennai are a hub for some of these companies

@Shujaat Khan, I live in Ontario, Canada. One of the most pleasurable things that could happen to me when I go for long drives is the billboards by the side of the road advertising a lot products. I sat up really erect one day in my driver's seat,when I saw a billboard advertising Mahindra & Mahindra tractors and farm equipment in a local town. Mahindra is not yet successful in marketing their SUV's in N America but very successful in selling tractors and farming equipment. @Mayank R I am not a Pakistani. And have worked for automobile industry for a long time and am aware of India's auto industry. Read my comment again I am not bad mouthing India . Yes Tata owns Jaguar and Land-Rover and in future probably will own more struggling car brands. My point was what India has produced on it's own which people are dying to buy? Go out of big cities and you will see the reality and it's no different in Pakistan either. Peace.

@Shujaat Khan: India a Huge country and NH7 ( National Highway no. 7) runs 2,369 kms. National Highways are 4 lanes on each side Roads. Total 235 National Highways are there in India i.e NH1, 2 ,3 to NH 235. Like wise,there are other expressways with thousands of KMs long. You should see today's India and not judge by what it was in the 90s.

@Sense actually all the auto shows are organised with manufacturers setting up their own props and designed platforms. The hosts just provide an empty exhibition centre.

@Shujaat Khan Everything produced by Tata's, Mahindra's, Force 1, PAL (There are more than 10 such 100% Indian companies) are manufactured in India. In fact Most of the foreign brands are also manufactured in India using Local parts. Indian car exports are over $2.00 Billion

@Shujaat Khan However hard you wish India is way ahead of Pakistan. More and more of the people live in cities and towns in India. India is the fifth largest auto market and fast moving up. Jaguar and Landrover are not struggling any more. They are doing very well with TATA management. India has several Indian car brands which are doing very well in Europe, Africa and South America.

@Ravi Vancouver I don't think you are aware of the facts on ground. Pollution certificate as per International standards is valid only for 3 months. This means you no option but get pollution check quarterly thereby keeping your vehicle in a better condition.

@Shujaat Khan Mahindra's XUV 500 is pretty popular with Indians. So is Tata Safari. Both of them compete global brands in India and are doing fairly well.

@Arshad Patel You can do consistent 140 to 150 kms per hour on some of our national highways which are six lane. There are a few Expressways where you could drive faster. That's better than the 65mph limit the USA restricts its cars to.

Pakistan should do the same and launch car show too like this.

For people who doubt Indian roads or buying power of Indians, kindly Google once. There is vast number of Indians who are not mentioned in either government records or online database but possess hefty purchasing power. People residing outside India can't fathom it's beauty and might unless they come and see with their own eyes. Its a fact that India is developing fast. Every hour 17 Indians are alleviated above poverty. Many Indians don't believe in swanky exhibition of wealth. Many buy gold or invest in land or in education. But slowly younger generation is interested in buying these automobile and hence there is sudden surge of wooing Indian customers. India is leaping to become global automotive hub. Expat Indians and foreigners should once come and see to check ground realities.

@Ravi Vancouver You are right. But things appear to be moving on that front. The new emission norms BS6 will be in place by 2018-2020 which will put the fuel quality on par with many in the West. Look up the articles in the business news.

@Shujaat Khan Dude, Car industry is highly competitive and it is no joke to get anything of world standard to international market. So, your question is a "non-sequitur". There are a lot of British car models for example who never have made it to US markets. Only a few South Korean Cars (Hyundai in particular) have made it to US market. But you can expect high quality Indian brands to hit world markets in future. It is something waiting to happen. Already something has been happening in this regard for sometime now. For example, Mahindra and Mahindra's "Mahindra Scorpio" is built for global market and is sold across the world in countries such as: Australia, Bangladesh, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, France, Italy, Nepal, Qatar, Egypt, Malaysia, Russia, Spain, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Trinidad and Turkey. In western Europe, Mahindra Scorpio is called Mahindra Goa.

@ Shujaat Khan, Further to my last post, Mahindra Mahindra already sells Tractors, Commercial Vehicles in USA but its plan to sell SUV some years ago came up against rough weather. IT is now trying to re-enter this competitive market albeit in a much smaller way. Tata Motors exports its passenger vehicles to Asian and African markets. India's Auto export market is worth $ 14.5 billion (yes, that is billion not million!) in 2014. Top destinations include: USA, Mexico, South Africa, UK among others.
