GUJRAT: Police have failed to trace those involved in issuing threatening letters in the name of militant Islamic State group to some local educational institutions.

In another such case on Thursday, the principal of a women’s college received a letter demanding Rs5 million as well.

The police have registered at least three such cases in different parts of Gujrat district during the last one month.

Syeda Rubab, principal of Government ID Janjua College for Women, Lalamusa, had on Feb 8 received a letter carrying threat from the ‘IS’. Mentioning a mobile phone number for further contact, the letter also demanded Rs5m.

The matter was brought to the notice of the Lalamusa police which lodged a case against unidentified accused under Section 506 of PPC. Earlier on Jan 28, some unidentified people had written slogans related to IS on the wall of Sara-i-Alamgir railway station, electricity poles and walls of some houses in the Fawara Chowk area.

In the first week of January, the same group’s pamphlets were found in the Girls High School, Dinga, in which a threat to damage the school and attack on students was mentioned.

An alleged terrorist, who had blown himself up when his bid was foiled to plant a bomb on the railway track in Domeli area of Jhelum district on Jan 28, also belonged to Sara-i-Alamgir.

Sources said the LEAs had picked up some suspects belonging to banned militant groups.
