KOHAT: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) Kohat district has banned the celebration of Valentine's Day, according to a notification issued by the nazim of Kohat District Government.

Celebration, sale of Valentine's Day cards and paraphernalia has been banned across the district according to the notification issued by Maulana Niaz Mohammad, belonging to the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (JUI-F).

The notification issued by the district administration also added that action will be taken against violators, and instructed police officials to ensure that the directive is enforced.

The notification was issued to District Police Officer (DPO) Kohat from the office of the nazim, Kohat.

The DPO has been asked to instruct his subordinates to enforce the ban by visiting markets.

Valentine's Day celebrations have been banned for being against Shariah, locals said quoting the district nazim.

Peshawar district assembly passes resolution against Valentine's Day

A resolution against the celebration of the day was also passed in the Peshawar district assembly Friday.

The resolution was presented by Khalid Waqas of the Jamaat-i-Islami. However, a KP Police spokesman told DawnNews that passage of the resolution did not imply a ban on celebrating Valentine's day.

The spokesman said no orders to the effect had been issued by the Peshawar deputy commissioner.
