Wahab urges youngsters not to take inspiration from Shehzad brawl

ISLAMABAD: Left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz has urged the youth not to get any inspiration from what happened between him and opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match on February 14.
“Whatever happened that day during the match was my reaction to something. But I don’t want to get into details. I would like to urge people not to get any inspiration from the incident,” he said while talking to a local TV channel.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) fined Riaz and Shehzad 40 per cent and 30 per cent of their match fees respectively for ‘inappropriate physical contact’.
Riaz was representing Peshawar Zalmi and Shehzad was playing for Quetta Gladiators during the 17th PSL match at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Gladiators, batting first, sent Shehzad and Asad Shafiq as their openers.
Shehzad was looking in a good form and all set for a big innings until Wahab shattered his middle stump soon after getting smashed for a mighty six in the fifth over.
The wicket followed an exchange of harsh words with both players shoving each other.
TV replays showed Wahab provoking Shehzad by passing on ‘inappropriate’ comments, to which the batsman reacted by colliding into the bowler, crossing a fine line between intense competition and unacceptable behaviour.
The scuffle was, however, neutralised on the spot.
Shehzad also had a message for the fiery fast bowler. “Whatever happens on the field will always remain on the field. I wish my Pakistan teammate well,” he said.

@Eddie Im pretty sure it was Riaz who walked upto Shehzad like a raging bull and mouthing off initially. Id love to see him behave like that in an international match, even Joe Root put him in his place and Joe Root doesnt come across as a fast bowler to me. Lack of class.

@SHAHID Yes, that one spell has gone to his head. Education matters you see, imagine Hussey for his whole career just be remembered that 2010 WT20 SF in which he smacked Ajmal. Wahab is a overrated bowler.

@Revenge Its not about education, its about decency. The way he over reacted was almost like, you didnt need to hit me for six, I get hit by other teams anyway. A couple of bouncers against a mediocre batsman like Watson doesnt make you a good bowler ( that too on a bouncy pitch). The rest of his career is a joke, as is he. Oh and Ahmed Shehzads six, was fantastic.

What Riaz should better correct himself, he is a bad temper person. Whenever he out some player his reaction and his body language is very aggressive, this is not suitable for a sportsman. Concerning his brawl with Ahmed Shazad he is clearly seen moving towards Shazad throwing abuses. PCB should suspend him for atleast next 3 matches

What are y'all talking about? I like this show of emotion in Pakistan players, especially Wahab Riaz. That's how a fast bowler should be. Have y'all forgotten Lillee, Hadlee, Imran, Waqar, Wasim. A fast bowler needs it. Also, great players have a little attitude, nothing wrong with it. Players like Viv Richards, Ponting, Miandad, Ganguly, Amir Sohail, Kohli all have a little attitude and a lot of emotion.
Recent Pakistani players lack this, especially fast bowlers, so it is good to see this as long as they don't go overboard. What happens on field stays on field.

I was witnessed this match, Mr. Wahab: It were you, started the conflict, Shahzad simply reacted. First, you regret and apologize, this is 2nd incidents first Nawaz hit 4 to you, than out you used similar behavior, he is young talented avoid this honey bees attitude, you have to & too careful with this type of attitude with Gyal & Andrae Russel, they have in hand a bat. These are W.Indian you have to take extra caution.

Wahab was praised a lot by indians when he bowled well during their visit to india.
I have noticed that each new fast bowler that joins the pakistani team is very good in the beginning, it is a season or two later that we come to know that other issues surface.

@SHAHID mate Adelaide is the flattest track in Australia is known as a batting track has been for years! If anything it turns on day 4 or 5 of a test match Maybe bouncy in an alternate universe certainly not here!

@Younus Yakoob Nah. Let him have a go or two at the Aussies. But no shoving. I actually like a fast bowler acting aggressive, provided he doesn't go overboard. That kind of aggressive behavior seems to be lacking in our pace bowlers these days. The glare after getting hit for six, sharp bouncers when a batsman doesn't walk when he knows he's out. Pace bowlers are at their quickest when they are riled up. Let them be, as long as there is no shoving or words that are far too inappropriate.

Just in case Wahab does not realise, no one is taking any inspiration from the brawl he and Shehzad got into on the field. As a matter of fact we are highly critical and utterly dismayed at such hooliganism displayed by them. We demand an unreserved apology from the two bone heads.

Looks AS started all that, by saying something first to Wahab. AS is already desperate to survive in general, that six made him out of control immediately, so this shows his mental class, I don't know how will he treat others if get a chance to become a big time player. Wahab is experienced player and should've shown maturity and patience, he already played game under pressure more than PSL's. In short these both and the rest must behave and show respect for each others and play positive games.

@Nas Hence the reason Mr Riaz has been taking wickets left right and centre ever since right? I oppose your view its the flattest track, and even less so under lights where the ball carries dew and sprays around everywhere. If there ever was an erratic, and total fluke bowler, then its your man right there. Couple of bouncers, even if dug in on the flat tracks, doesnt make you the best thing since sliced bread. Fact remains he didnt get a single wicket after that dropped catch to write home about.

Saw something similar in BPL with the Bangla bowler Shahid. ICC needs to clamp down on these taunting celebrations, its plain obnoxious. Youngsters are copying it already .
