Are we slaves to the digital world?

I agree with Syeda Mahnoor Raza in her article “Are we slaves to the digital world?” (YW, Jan 16)that we mostly spend time on social networking websites and if our parents call us for something, it becomes too annoying to leave the phone or the computer.

Apart from that, during class lectures, I have often seen students using Whatsapp, and Facebook without giving heed to the lecturer, which is disrespectful.

Before this technology, kids would go out and engage in physical games but now no one goes out, children have become couch potatoes.

One should always remember that spending time in creative activities such as reading books, playing physical games, writing and participating in co-curricular activities makes one a more well-rounded person.

The treasure in books

This is regarding the article “The treasure in books” by Sandhya Karamat Barlaas (YW, January 23, 2016). I realised that book reading helps us to handle many situations in life, as sometimes we read a quote or a saying that gets stuck to our mind and seems to be applicable to our current situation. It can help us in getting an understanding of the situation.

Books can be our real friends and a treasure for life. Good books make our personality. We should always prefer reading books over other useless activities.

Quiz

This is with reference to the “Quiz” section by Ahzam Ahmed. I like this section very much because it contains interesting information about countries, animals, science, general knowledge and various other unique topics that give knowledge to kids. I appreciate the YW team for their efforts in bringing out such an amazing magazine for kids.

Apart from that, I would like to request the YW team to publish suspense articles and stories for kids who like to read stories on this theme as they are not easily available.

Art work

I am very interested in art and really appreciate young artists who portray their skills in the magazine and I also appreciate the YW for giving a platform to even three-year-old artists who have just started to recognise the power of crayons and paints in their little hands.

It is one of the most beautiful and inspiring pages in the whole magazine and I would request the team to always give one whole page to the drawings so that more children get the chance to showcase their talent.
