SARGODHA: At least seven people, including two children and four women, were killed as lightning struck their house near Puran Chowk area of Punjab's Khushab district in the early hours of Saturday.
A two-storey house collapsed, after it was struck by lightning, trapping its occupants under debris.
At least seven people were killed while eight others were wounded in the incident.
Rescue and emergency teams reached the spot and shifted the victims to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (THQ) Jauharabad.
A lightning strike is an electric discharge between the atmosphere and an earth-bound object. They mostly originate in the thundercloud and terminate on the ground, called cloud to ground (CG) lightning.

To make the structures safe, it does not cost a lot to fix it by Earthing.

@Kamal Pasha. Yes but it is usually done for high rise structures and buildings on highlands and BTW it is very costly you need copper lighting arrester and a thick copper stirp runs down and connected to the underground copper conductor atleast 20 feet below the ground level and this will cost you more than 1.5 lac rupees.

@Kamal Pasha. .... ... They could have installed a lightning rod on the roof giving the lightning a path into the ground.

Really a tragic incident of my city, which left the whole family ruined. Every eye was wet with tears and a crowd of uncountable people with sympathies on the funeral.
