Latham joins Kent

LONDON: New Zealand batsman Tom Latham is to play for Kent in all formats during the upcoming English domestic season, the county club announced on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old left-hander has scored three Test hundreds and can also keep wicket.

“I’m delighted to have joined Kent for the season. Playing county cricket has always been a goal of mine,” said Latham. “I’ve heard great things about the playing group and coaching staff, so I can’t wait to get started and help the boys push for some silverware.”

Latham scored 63 in the first Test against Australia earlier this month and is due to join the Kent squad before the first-class County Championship season starts on April 10.

Kent hope Latham can boost their push for promotion from the Second Division of the Championship, with coach and former West Indies captain Jimmy Adams saying: “We’re delighted to have Tom playing with us this season. He brings valuable experience gained from playing at the international level across all formats.

“We are confident that he will play a big role as the club pushes for promotion in the County Championship and white-ball success.”

Last week Kent confirmed that South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada would join them for a spell in June and July, in between the fast bowler’s expected international commitments.
