VEHARI: Six people, including two women, died and 40 others injured on Tuesday in a collision between a bus and an oil-tanker on Vehari-Multan road, some 15km from here, in Thingi police limits.
According to police, Haroonabad-bound bus coming from Bahawalnagar, collided with a loaded oil-tanker near Gulam Husain stop. As a result, six bus passengers, including the driver, died on the spot.
According to Rescue 1122 personnel, who took part in the rescue work, the deceased were identified as Naseem Bibi, Safia Bibi (of Kot Addu), Amir Buksh (of DG Khan) and bus driver Nazir Ahmed (of Bahawalnagar), while the identity of two others could not be ascertained.
They said as many as 40 other bus passengers were injured and admitted to the local district headquarters hospital.
The seriously injured, who were shifted to the Nishtar Hospital, Multan, were identified as Anwar, Faizan Bibi, Husnain Shah, Nisar Ahmed, Syed Sadiq, Sajjad and Zubeda Aslam.
Dr Waseem at the DHQ hospital’s emergency ward said that out of 40 injured people shifted to the facility, 16 were discharged after the provision of first aid, while as many others were being treated.
Highway patrolling police also shifted some of the injured to the DHQ Hospital.
Thingi police Station House Officer Nadir Baloch said the accident occurred due to speeding.
Police registered a case under sections 279, 427 and 337/G of the PPC.
The SHO said the dead bodies had been handed over to the families of the deceased after autopsies at the DHQ Hospital.
