SWABI: The army and district police conducted a joint search operation and arrested 189 suspects and recovered arms here on Friday.

District police officer Javid Iqbal said that officials of the counter terrorism department and other agencies also participated in the operation. This was the second search operation in Razaar tehsil and overall fourth conducted during the last one month here in the district.

The operation, he said, mainly targeted the mountain of Kara Mar where it was believed that some militants along with criminals usually stayed.

Answering a question, he said that they had also asked the Mardan police to remain alert during the operation. He said that the police arrested 189 suspects and seized arms during the operation.

POTABLE WATER: Tehsil nazim Wahid Shah said here on Friday that the tehsil government would provide drinking water to all the people in the jurisdiction of tehsil municipal administration.

He was addressing a function organised to inaugurate a water filtration plant in Zaida city. Members of tehsil assembly also attended the ceremony. It was the first filtration plant installed by the present tehsil government.

Mr Shah said that they had planned to install more filtration plants in different areas. He said that the move was aimed at protecting people from various water-borne diseases. “Provision of clean water is one of the main demands of the people,” he said.
