The secret of a happy life

This is with reference to the story “The secret of a happy life” by “Mariam Ali Mahar” (YW, February 6). The writer aptly depicted the fast-paced life we city dwellers have today where we are always short of time and peace of mind.

Even we, the children, are living a stressful life. For instance, we have to deal with studies, assignments, etc. and the little time left is mostly spent on phones or TV, leaving no time for physical relaxation or stress free moments. Thus, we hardly notice the beauty of nature which could otherwise give us peace of mind.

However, villages still possess the beauty of nature with friendly people. There you also get the chance to see nature in full bloom. The story showed how the simple life of village dwellers could change minds and give a whole new perspective to city dwellers.

Women’s Day

Someone rightly said, “Every men needs a women when his life is a mess, because just like the game of chess — the queen protects the king.” Women have strengths that amaze men. She can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens. International Women’s Day, originally called International Working Women’s Day, is celebrated on March 8 every year and events are held worldwide to mark this day.

The messages given at these events often focus on various themes such as innovation, the portrayal of women in the media, or the importance of education and career opportunities.

Many students in schools and other educational institutes participate in special lessons, debates or presentations about the importance of women in society, their influence and issues that affect them. In some countries, school children bring gifts for their female teachers, and women receive small presents from friends or family members.

I am a part of the Excellence of Women’s Studies Department of Karachi University. My department and students of other departments also celebrate this day and we send gifts to needy women and appreciate them. Happy Women’s Day to all my mothers, sisters and friends.

Tackling the exam

This is regarding the article “Tackling in exam” by Yasmin Elahi (YW, February 27). The article was very interesting and full of informative ideas. Our hard work will never go in vain if we are optimistic and utilise each minute with full devotion. Teamwork is very useful if it includes discussion that overcome the group members’ problems, but it’s sad that most students don’t take it seriously and waste their time in cracking jokes and teasing others. Students will surely benefit from the tips given by the writer.
