KOHAT/PESHAWAR: Pakistan army’s slain officer Lt-Col Tariq Ghafoor was laid to rest with full military honour beside the grave of his father Maj-Gen (r) Fazl Ghafoor in Chambai village of Kohat amid heavy rain on Saturday.

He has left behind a son, three daughters and a widow to mourn his death.

The funeral prayers were attended by civil and military officers and a large number of locals.

Lt-Col Ghafoor was killed by unidentified assailants when he was going to a mosque for Friday prayers near Sarband village on the Ring Road in Peshawar.

Meanwhile, the Sarband police station in Peshawar has yet to register an FIR in the murder of the army officer.

Police officials told Dawn that brother of the slain army officer, who is also a military officer, had yet to show up at the police station for registration of FIR.

They said that the family of the deceased was supposed to come for registration of FIR on Saturday after burial of the slain official, but they didn’t come.

The officials said as soon as the relatives visited the police station, an FIR would be registered into the case.
