KOLKATA: Sana Mir’s girls start their campaign in the World T20 in Chennai on Wednesday with a formidable Caribbean line-up and a dismal record stacked against them.
West Indies are currently on a run of five T20 Internationals without defeat against Pakistan (win-3, tie-2). Sana Mir’s side have in fact only won once in eight previous attempts versus West Indies.
But with six wins, Australians have claimed more T20 victories over Pakistan than West Indies, which have won five.
Pakistan have mustered only three wins from 16 previous attempts in the Women’s World T20, though two of those victories came in their last three matches.
Stafanie Taylor is just 38 runs shy of becoming the first West Indies player to record 2,000 runs in T20s.
Hear teammate Anisa Mohammad needs three more wickets to become the first bowler to claim 100 in women’s T20.
The women’s T20 tournament began in 2009, two years after the men’s event started in South Africa, and five Pakistani will play their fifth successive World Cup since then.
Apart from skipper Sana Mir, the others are Asmavia Iqbal, Bismah Maroof, Javeria Khan and Nain Abedi.
Pakistan are in Group 2 in the current edition along with the West Indies, the other being two South Asian sides – India and Bangladesh.
