KOHAT: The local police on Wednesday claimed to have foiled two attempts to smuggle drugs from the Frontier Region of Kohat into the city.

Personnel of Riaz Mohammad police station stopped a suspicious rickshaw coming from tribal Shindhand area. Upon checking the police recovered 11 kilogrammes of hashish from it.

The police arrested the drug pusher named Saleem Khan, and obtained his one day remand from the court. During investigation he admitted that he was smuggling hashish from FR Kohat to the Kohat city. The police registered a case against the driver belonging to Jungle Khel area of the city.

In the second action, personnel signaled a suspicious car to stop at the mills police checkpost, but the driver sped away, throwing behind a bag.

The police checked the bag and found 30 bottles of liquor in it. The police registered a case against unknown culprits and launched efforts to arrest them.

FILE PAPERS: Eighteen candidates submitted on Wednesday their nomination papers for contesting Kohat bar association polls, 2016, to be held on March 28.

The papers were submitted with the chairman election committee Mehmoodul Islam Advocate.

For the slot of president, four candidates filed theirs papers, including Javed Mohammad Panji, Malik Hammad Azam, Ghayas Gilani, and Mazahir Husssain.

Similarly, for general secretary, two candidates, Dr Ameer Ajam and Muhtashim submitted papers. For vice president, five candidates namely Anwar Mohammad Afandi, Ibrar Alam, Sardar Ali, Zulfiqar Khan and Jamshed Alam filed papers.

For joint secretary, Umar Khan, Mudasir Saeed and Tahir Saeed, for finance secretary Mudasir Ijaz and Saeed Mudasir Pirzada, and for secretary library, Shahid Hayat, Qasim Bukhari, Mudasir Saeed and Syed Pirzada filed papers, respectively.
