LANDI KOTAL: The border crossing at Torkham was closed for some time on Monday after an exchange of harsh words between border guards of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Sources said the Afghan guards had expressed displeasure over what they alleged maltreatment of Afghan nationals going to Pakistan by Frontier Corps and Khasadar personnel. They registered a verbal complaint with their Pakistani counterparts over the matter.

The situation turned ugly when at one point during the verbal duel guards on both sides pointed guns at each other. The Afghan guards closed the border for more than an hour, causing inconvenience to commuters on both sides.

The border crossing was reopened after officials from both countries intervened to resolve the issue.

Meanwhile, Pakistani authorities deported 188 Afghan citizens arrested from different areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under the Foreign Act for unlawfully staying in Pakistan.

SUICIDE: A young man, identified as Maqeedullah, allegedly committed suicide on Monday by shooting himself with a pistol in Meerdad Khel area of Landi Kotal following a family dispute over an ‘honour-related’ issue.
