KARACHI: A man was shot dead by armed robbers when he resisted a robbery bid in Mithadar, officials said.

They said that two suspects intercepted Abdul Ghani, 40, in New Chali and tried to snatch his motorbike, cash and other valuables. As he put up resistance, the suspects fired at him and tried to escape on his motorcycle. In the meantime, a police patrol reached the scene and apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Javed Rasheed. His other accomplice, however, managed to flee, said SSP-City Fida Hussain.

The wounded man was taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi where he died during treatment.

The SSP claimed that the suspect in custody was the one who shot and killed the citizen.

Meanwhile, Sindh police chief A.D. Khowaja announced a reward of Rs25,000 for the Mithadar police team, said a police spokesman.

Suspected mugger killed in PECHS ‘encounter’

A suspected robber was shot dead and his accomplice was arrested in a wounded condition in an ‘encounter’ in PECHS on Saturday evening, according to police.

They added that two suspects were allegedly looting passers-by near Memon Gol Masjid close to the Jheel Park within the jurisdiction of the Ferozabad police station when a police patrol reached the scene.

In an ensuing encounter, both suspects were wounded and arrested. They were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where Mehmood, 20, died during treatment, said Dr Seemin Jamali, the head of the JPMC’s emergency department.

The other suspect was identified as Ameenullah, 20, and he was discharged after initial treatment, she added.
