RAHIM YAR KHAN: On the order of an additional district and sessions judge, a bailiff on Monday recovered an employee of a flour mill owned by the son of a ruling party lawmaker from Khanpur city police station.

Naureen Basit told journalists that her husband Abdul Basit was recovery in charge at Ahmed Flour Mill, owned by Sheikh Emmaduddin, president of the Rahim Yar Khan Chamber of Commerce and Industry and son of PML-N MNA Sheikh Fayyazuddin from NA-193.

She said after her husband failed to achieve the mill’s recovery target, the owner kept him detained illegally at an unidentified place for 20 days.

During his detention, Basit was also subjected to torture, she added.

When Basit’s wife failed to trace her husband, she filed an application with the office of investigation wing Superintendent of Police (SP) Irfan Ali Sammon for his recovery, but of no avail.

Later, Ms Noreen got information from her own sources that her husband had been shifted to the city police station.

Through her council Adil Rafiq Bajwa, Ms Noreen filed a writ petition in the court of Khanpur Additional Sessions Judge Sardar Akram Khan for recovery of her husband.

The court appointed a bailiff who recovered Abdul Basit from illegal custody of police during a raid on the city police station. But, meanwhile the police had registered a case against Basit, declaring him suspect in Rs10 million graft case.

Ms Noreen asked why police did not mention the “false” case registered against Basit when she had filed an application to the investigation SP for her husband’s recovery. She also questioned registration of the case by Khanpur police while the flour mill was located at Rahim Yar Khan.

SP Samoon’s mobile phone was found powered off while DPO Zeeshan Asghar did not attend the call when this reporter tried to contact the both officers for their stance on the issue.

Chamber president Sheikh Emmaduddin denied involvement in Basit’s illegal detention, saying the matter was being handled by police.

Refusing to discuss the issue, he said his manager would give details regarding the matter.
