LAHORE: Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Emir Sirajul Haq has called the report “an eye-opener” about offshore properties of Pakistani politicians, bureaucrats, businessmen and judges, and said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) must look into it.
He alleged that politicians and rulers had ruthlessly plundered national resources and public money and had transferred the “looted wealth” abroad unlawfully. He also said money laundering was a crime and sought thorough investigation against all those who had built properties and companies in other countries.
The JI chief said the prime minister’s sons Husain and Hasan reportedly owned offshore companies and the NAB should investigate where they got the money from to set up those companies. He question if the rulers built properties on foreign lands, who would invest in the country?
He called upon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to explain the offshore companies of his family.
PAT: Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Dr Tahirul Qadri has said a daily newspaper was needed to record alleged corruption, money laundering, receiving of kickback by and foreign assets of the incumbent rulers.
He questioned the silence of institutions meant for accountability of the corrupt, provision of justice and ensuring solidarity and integrity of the country. He was talking to a meeting of the party’s consultative council here from Canada through video link.
Dr Qadri wondered how a ruler, who could not convince his children to invest in the country, could invite others for investment purposes. He claimed that only 5pc of the corruption of the rulers had so far been exposed by the Panama leaks and the masses would hear more in the days to come.
