KHAIRPUR, Nov 16: District Nazim Nafisa Shah issued an order on Saturday to seal the district Naib Nazim office, stating there had been a dispute on the post of the Naib Nazim.

According to the order, the office will remain sealed till the issue was resolved either by the Election Commission or the higher authorities.

She said that she would also issue an order for sealing the district council hall before the session of Nov 17.

Earlier, according to acting district Naib Nazim Shafi Mohammad Chandio, about 35 people, including some armed men, stormed his office and asked him to vacate it. He alleged that the intruders damaged furniture and stationery of the office and added that he was going to lodge an FIR against them.

They showed him a notification issued by the provincial transition wing.

The notification said Mr Chandio of the Awam Dost Panel had illegally occupied the office of the district Naib Nazim. It added that he had filed nomination paper for the vacant seat of district Naib Nazim and resigned from the post of Faqirabad union council Nazim therefore he was no more a member of the district council.

Later, Abdul Aziz Bhambhro of the Khairpur Dost Panel, claiming to be the most senior member of the penal of the presiding officers of district council, assumed the control of the office of the Naib Nazim.

When contacted, the district Nazim said that the move was aimed at dislodging her district government by the rival group.

She said that Mr Chandio had not resigned from the post of the UC Nazim. He had filed nomination paper for the seat of district Naib Nazim but at an early stage, he withdrew from the nomination and his name was not published in final candidates’ lists, she added. She said that the Sindh High Court had stayed the election of the district Naib Nazim and declared the process of by-election.

She said that Mr Bhambhro was not the most senior member of the presiding officers’ panel. She said it was an attempt to fail the district government by some members of the provincial coalition and some senior officers.
