PIA to support squash again

Published November 17, 2003

LAHORE, Nov 16: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will again support squash to help it regain its past glory.

This was stated by chairman of PIA, Chaudhry Ahmad Saeed, on Sunday while  handing  over a cheque of Rs two million  to  the  Punjab Squash Association president, Lt. Gen. Zarar Azim, as a  co-sponsor for the World Open to be held in Lahore from Dec 12.

The chairman said  that  PIA could not extend full  support to  the sports activities due to financial constraints. However, now that the situation had improved, the national carrier would support and promote sports.

He said the next time PIA would be the main sponsor  of  such events.

Asked  why  PIA  confined  this  generosity  only  to  squash ignoring  hockey and other games, he said that if  the  financial position would allow, the same facilities would also be  extended to other sports.
