Mix, mash, and share

Published April 23, 2016

Most kids these days are way too interested in making and creating a video, a vine, a collage by taking lots of pictures of themselves or their friends, sometimes in order to make special photo presentations of school years, sports team seasons, vacations, or other events, something that their friends admire or get impressed with when they share it. And with loads of free websites and apps available at their disposal, it becomes too difficult to choose one that is kid-friendly as well as easy to use. This is where Masher — a website that lets users easily create a video by mashing together video clips, pictures and music tracks comes in handy.

To start with, a user must register with the site in order to watch the tutorials, browse the video gallery or to create their own mash-ups. However, kids under 13 must get their parent’s permission to use this site’s interactive features. The interface of the site is fairly easy as there are just five steps a user has to follow. Choose a theme, select the pictures or videos from the desktop or cloud drives, select the music, add the text (if one wants to) and save it.

When complete, users can share their mash-up video on the site itself, or with friends via Facebook, Twitter, or email. In its simplest form, Masher is sort of like a slide show set to music or a PowerPoint-style presentation created by combining photos, videos and music.

According to the site, Masher was created in 2008 and has an incredible built-in library of footage and music that a user can use for free. The free video library archive on the site features thousands of high quality clips, including footage from CBS News, BBC Motion Gallery, China Central Television, NHK Japan, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, Rip Curl, Huntley Archives and many more. The music has been provided by Audio Networks and Slam, who are experts in online music and production.

Masher is a creative tool that empowers kids/teens to create fun content that they can watch, reflect on, edit, and adjust as much as they want prior to sharing publicly.
