KARACHI: Pakistan’s campaign in the 32nd Asian Snooker Championship came to an abrupt end when its last aspirant and former world champion Mohammad Asif went down fighting 5-4 to Thailand’s Kritsanut Lertsattayathorn in the quarter-finals at Doha on Thursday night.
According to information reaching here, the Thai recovered into the game thrice from down to inflict 46-69, 103-0, 46-76, 66-40, 116-0, 38-72, 12-82, 80-1, 81-0 defeat on his opponent.
The Thai was on a break-building spree as he conjured up a century (116) in the fifth frame and two equally good breaks of 86 and 81 in the second and ninth frames.
Asif, on the other hand, piled up a break of 70 in the third frame.
Besides Asif, national champion Mohammad Bilal, former world No 2 and most experienced Mohammad Sajjad and runner-up of the 2016 national’s Sohail Shehzad displayed pathetic performance.
Meanwhile, reports reaching here said that the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Federation (PBSF) president Alamgir Shaikh was re-elected senior vice president of the Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports (ACBS) in its annual general body meeting held on the sidelines of the ongoing Asian championship on Thursday.
The incumbent ACBS president Mubarak Al Khayarin, secretary Michael Al Khoury and treasurer Joseph Lo also returned unopposed on their posts.
