MULTAN, Dec 29: Ten persons were killed while 52 others sustained injuries in different road accidents mainly due to thick fog in the Punjab on Saturday.

In Multan, three persons were killed and 19 received injuries in two road accidents here on Saturday.

A Multan bound wagon (SGD-5273) collided head-on with a truck (GMA-97) due to fog near Basti Malookan, Perashaan Chowk. Haji Saeed (45) and Abdul Qayyum (52) died instantly while 12 others got injuries. The injured — Muhammad Shafi, Liaquat, Wasim, Yaseen, Muhammad Akram, Sharafat Ali, Abdul Ghafoor, Abdul Rasheed, Muhammad Irfan, Islamullah, Khalid Mehmood and Talib Hussain — were shifted to the Nishtar Hospital.

In another accident, a Multan bound bus (Peshawar-8917) crashed into a truck (GLT-8917) in Sultan Colony near Muzaffargarh in Sanawa police limits. The truck driver, Fiaz, died on the spot while Saifullah, Fakhar, Hayat, Sajid, Saeed and Noor Khan sustained injuries. They were admitted to the Nishtar Hospital.

SAHIWAL: Two persons were killed and 12 sustained injuries, four of them serious, in different road mishaps here during the last 24 hours.

A speeding wagon (QAA-9363) overturned on the Sahiwal-Pakpattan Road near Chak 81/D. Allah Ditta died instantly while 12 others suffered wounds. The condition of four of them — Muhammad Din, Sikandar, Ashraf and Zulaikhan — was stated to be serious in a local hospital.

In Chak 73/4-R, a speeding tractor knocked down and killed instantly a minor boy, Muhammad Imran (10).

SHEIKHUPURA: Five persons, including a woman, were killed and 21 others got hurt in different traffic mishaps due to poor visibility in and around the city during the last 12 hours.

A wagon (LOK-8621) rammed into a truck on the Faisalabad Road near Shahkot, some 60 kilometres from here. Hanifa Bibi (70) died on the spot while 12 others received injuries, three of them grievous. They were removed to hospitals in Faisalabad and Shahkot. The drivers of two vehicles managed to escape.

Shahkot police are looking into the matter.

Two labourers were killed when a speeding bus hit them on the Faisalabad Road near Rawal Chemical Factory early Saturday morning.

Muhammad Iqbal and Dildar Hussain were going to their homes on a bicycle when they met an accident. The bus driver escaped from the scene.

The third accident took place near Karial Baghanwala on the Sangla Road where a speeding bus hit a roadside tree due to poor visibility. As a result, an old man, unidentified so far, died on the spot while eight others received serious injuries. They were shifted to nearby hospitals.

Police are investigating the matter.

A man, Arshad Mehmood, was killed while his pillion rider, Ghaffar, sustained injuries when their motorcycle collided with a tractor-trolley in Nabipura.
