SIALKOT, Nov 17: Vehicular traffic in the district is becoming more and more indisciplined due to alleged negligence of the authorities concerned.
The district administration and traffic police have failed to control unruly traffic and problems the commuters have bee facing in travelling. Besides, the motorists pay little heed to rules, adding to their problems in the form of frequent snarls at various points.
The general public, including businessmen, have reportedly protested time and again against mismanagement at level crossings, which often results in disorder.
The five railway crossings in the district remain closed about 15 times daily as a result of which motorists, cyclists and pedestrians can’t move freely. The traffic congestions at the level crossings also affect flow in other parts of the district.
Moreover, speeding and overloading by inter and intra-city public transports is a nuisance, which has never been taken care of. Those travelling by these wagons and buses have to face a great deal of difficulty at the general bus Stand, which lacks facilities.
The bus stand is currently accommodating 800 buses at the area allocated for 300 at the time of construction. It needs to be expanded to avoid overcrowding.
People have also complained about shortage of facilities like lights, parking sheds and proper sanitary conditions at the bus stand.
