KARACHI: The Sindh Board of Film Censors (SBFC) on Tuesday revoked the ban on movie “Maalik”, hours after imposing the ban on the recently released film, local media reported.
The provincial censor board had earlier issued a notification to ban the recently released movie 'Maalik' in the province.
This surprising chain of events comes three weeks after the movie's release nationwide, and after it had received the initial permission to be shown in the province's cinemas.
The SBFC notification, a copy of which is available with Dawn.com had stated, "Viewed the said film which was being exhibited in contravention of the provisions of the Sindh Motion Picture Act 2011, whereas the following excised portions were intact in the film.”
The ‘excised portions’ referred in the SBFC notification, pertains to a specific scene which shows a chief minister being sworn in.
However, Geo News later reported that the provincial censor board has taken back its earlier notification regarding the imposition of ban on ‘Maalik’.
While talking to Dawn.com, the film's director Aashir Azeem confirmed "yes, a ban was imposed on the movie, however, now the media reports are saying that it has been removed".
