LAHORE: Two sisters were stabbed and seriously injured by an unidentified man on Durand Road on Tuesday.

Khadija Siddiqui, 21, a student of a private law college, had gone to pick up her younger sister, Sofia Siddiqui, 7, from Convent of Jesus and Mary along with their driver, Riaz Ahmed, at 2pm.

Khadija and Sofia had hardly approached the car when an unidentified man, who had worn a helmet, rushed towards them. Sofia had taken her seat in the car while Khadija was about to enter into it when the attacker pushed her.

As Khadija fell on her younger sister, the attacker pulled out a knife and started stabbing the elder one. Sofia also got wounds while attempting to rescue her elder sister.

Riaz claimed that he tried to stop the attacker but could only grab the helmet and the man ran away from the scene.

The driver alerted the police and took both the sisters to the Services Hospital, where the condition of Khadija was stated to be serious. Sofia too was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Driver Riaz told Dawn that he had been working with the family for the last seven years. He said usually he would first pick up Sofia from the school and then drive to the college of Khadija.

The injured girl’s cousin, Sohaib Siddiqui, told Dawn that they had no enmity with anyone.

Assistant Sub-Inspector Habibur Rehman said initial investigation suggested that the attacker might have chased the elder girl on his motorcycle from her college and then attacked her.

He said forensic experts were called to collect the evidence from the crime scene.
