Agreement between Sargodha MPs, Nazim

Published November 19, 2003

LAHORE, Nov 18: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi effected on Tuesday a rapprochement between Sargodha legislators and District Nazim, shooting down an attempt to table a no-confidence move against the latter.

The rapprochement was effected after a delegation of the PML legislators called on the chief minister under Irrigation Minister Amer Sultan Cheema. Others included Colonies Minister Manazar Ali Ranjha, some MNAs and MPAs, and Sargodha Nazim Amjad Ali Noon.

Pervaiz Elahi asked them to work hand-in-hand and avoid the no-confidence motion against Mr Noon. The assemblies and the district governments were different tiers of the same system and their members should forge unity, shunning all their petty differences, he said.

According to a handout, the chief minister said efforts should be made to organize the PML at all levels. Its members should play an effective role in the reorganization of the party instead of indulging in petty differences, he said.

He said the PML legislators, workers and district Nazims must concertedly ensure implementation of the party’s manifesto and resolve their differences amicably. —Staff Reporter
