Story Times: Historypin

Published May 14, 2016

It is always good to know about your ancestors and the culture you belong to because the more you know about your forefathers and the history of your country, the more you feel confident about your roots. And I am sure you would feel pleasure when you tell your friends about your family tree, culture or anything historical you know about our country.

However, when it comes to the world, it still doesn’t know much about our beautiful culture, struggling history, historical architecture, antique stuff that you or your parents still possess and you can share and show the riches this country or you hold on www.historypin.com, a site with user-generated archive of historical photos, videos, audio recordings and personal recollections.

Historypin is a website that gathers millions of people, from across different generations, cultures and places, to share small glimpses of the past and to build up the huge story of human history just by sharing what they possess.

This site is great for history buffs, although it may not attract kids who aren’t interested in history. Still, plenty of school projects could benefit from this interactive research supplement where kids can delve fairly deep into some topics, with visuals that help broaden their understanding of history of the various places and events from around the world. However, if one wants to share his/her collection, all they have to do is register here with their Google or Facebook account.

According to the site, users can define any range of dates between 1840 and today, or browse collections like Protest, 1906 Earthquake and Fire, Facial Hair Through Time, and Seaside Collection. They can easily zoom in or out and swipe around the world and tap on historical photos that have been associated with locations by users. Registered users can post photos in few easy steps with caption, background story, and exact date range so that other users can see accordingly.

Whether you want to explore history or share photos and stories, you can excess the past of the world in pictures, audio and video, all for free on www.historypin.com
