HYDERABAD: Five wagons of a goods train derailed during shunting in a yard at the Hyderabad railway station on Thursday. No casualty was, however, reported and the track was declared ‘clear’ for routine traffic.

The goods train carrying fertilizers from Punjab had arrived Hyderabad and was bound for Mirpurkhas. “An inquiry into the derailment has been ordered,” deputy chief controller Mohammad Nawaz.said.

Divisional superintendent Nisar Memon rushed to the scene of incident from Karachi and inspected the track. “Only one wagon was derailed but it caused the derailment of four other wagons,” he observed.

Regarding the Tuesday incident where a train rammed into another train at Latifabad, Mr Memon said that an inquiry under divisional mechanical engineer Shaukat Mangi, was under way. He, however, observed that the driver of one of the two trains committed a glaring mistake that led to the accident.

He said that disciplinary action would be taken in the light of the the inquiry committee’s recommendations.
