LARKANA: The principal of Bibi Aseefa Dental College (BADC), Prof Dr Ilyas Shaikh, has relented on the issue of rustication of three students in the wake of meeting on Friday with a reconciliatory committee headed by Dr Niaz Kalani, central vice chairman of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz-Bashir.

The principal had rusticated the students, Kashif Shar, Zain Khaskheli and Ghulam Hussain Gamb, on March 3 on the recommendations of a disciplinary committee headed by him after the students were found guilty of insulting teachers and spoiling academic atmosphere, said sources.

Dr Kalani and members of the committee comprising Dr Mazhar Mughal, Hafiz Ahmed Ali Abbasi, Niaz Abro and others requested members of the disciplinary committee to reconsider the decision to save students’ future.

The BADC principal told Dawn the disciplinary committee would meet again in a couple of days and try to settle the issue in a way that no student had to lose academic year. “We will give benefit to students,” he said.

About a fortnight ago, JSQM-B workers staged a sit-in outside the secretariat of VC of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University demanding withdrawal of rustication orders but in vain.
