MITHI: A 31-year-old Ukrainian national allegedly kidnapped three years ago in Rawalpindi was recovered by law enforcement officials from the village of Katho in the limits of the Khensar police station on Sunday.
Senior Superintendent Police Tharparkar district Sarfaraz Nawaz Shaikh told Dawn that a joint team of police and Rangers raided the village and recovered the woman, Katrina, and her suspected kidnapper, Abdul Munaf Nohrio.
Katrina, speaking in broken English and Urdu, told police she was kidnapped in Rawalpindi and then taken to Tharparkar by Munaf.
Munaf's parents told police their son had married Katrina.
Katrina was not lured to the accused through social media but abducted, Shaikh said, adding that the possibility that other people in Rawalpindi were involved in the kidnapping could not be ruled out.
First Information Report no. 130/2013 had been registered against the alleged abductor at a police station in Mandrah, Shaikh said.
The SSP said the woman and the accused were both handed over to a police team from Rawalpindi and that the matter was being investigated.

Pakistani Peoples are apologizing to her for such horrifying actions from their country fellow. It is not easy to forget trauma and everything easy. But, We are thankful to our law enforcement agencies to recovered her and now time send her back to her country with respect and dignity.

Dear,it is not about India or Pakistan...when you look forward to meet your Facebook friend, who is completely stranger otherwise,that too in a foreign country-you must be careful especially when you are a women. I don't blame her, but this is how world is. Trusting a so called Facebook friend to this extent is completely foolish. Many desi boys do so,and hardly anyone is serious about relationship. So finding love on a social networking site is not advisable at all.

@Shah Nawaz bro, i do accept there is this rape problem in india, but it is limited only to some parts of the country, while many men do respect women out here.. The difference between india and pakistan in rape cases and violence against women is, in india atleast women and their organisations can raise their voice and our hyper-active media will cover nook and corner of the issue and there is a so-called law and justice system, think about pak, women can't even raise their voices in your country and many cases just don't come out at all. I think this is the only one sane difference that i can find..

Few months back there was report on media that dozens of women were taken into custody in Rawalpindi/Islamabad airport.
Borders, Sea Ports and Air Ports are the three places which should be blocked for any kind of infiltrations. These three places should be in control by state actors, not by non state actors.
It is high time for the management of this country that they should open their eyes now.

Abdul Munaf Nohrio, while being held in detention, should be told that similar abduction has happened to his own dear family members, i.e. the female family members. May be, just may be, then he will realise that his bravado has been the cause of immense misery for the kidnapped lady Katrina's family. She is also the daughter of a mum and dad, sister of her siblings, darling grandchild of her grandma etc.

We have two problems in our country. One we have more males than females because of gender selection bias and therefore there are men whose needs are not being fulfilled. Two, among certain groups it is considered OK to kidnap a women becuase she is travelling alone and therefore must be loose. If the women is not a muslim there are some sick individuals who think she is a lesser human and normal rules of deceny do not apply. Both of these are big problems that we cannot pretend do not exist.
