KARACHI: Upset galore highlighted last round matches as both Pakistan outfits were through to the quarter-finals of the fourth Asian Team Event snooker championship at Abu Dhabi on Tuesday.
According to results made available here, Malaysia shocked Pakistan 1 (Mohammad Asif and Asjad Iqbal) by 3-2 frames to emerge group D champions. The highlight of their triumph was a splendid break of 124 in the third frame. On the other hand, Pakistan chalked up two elegant breaks of 68 and 65 in the second and fourth frames but in vain.
However, despite the defeat, Pakistan 1 finished runners-up in the group to advance to the knockout quarters.
The Malaysian duo that includes Keen Hoo Moh and Kok Leong Lim won the battle 78-51, 0-92, 124-0, 57-71, 89-6.
Contrary to Pakistan 1 performance, Pakistan 2 that comprised Mohammad Bilal and Babar Masih stunned defending champions Iran 1 (Amir Sarkhosh and Soheil Vahedi) by the identical margin to top group C.
The Pakistan 2 duo staged a remarkable comeback from two frames down to post 5-109, 52-64, 84-32, 94-0, 75-13 victory.
It is pertinent to mention that Iran 1 clinched the title in the last edition held at Kish Island outclassing Iran 2 by 3-0 in the all-Iran final.
