ISLAMABAD: Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday expressed his best wishes for Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who will undergo an open-heart surgery on Tuesday.

In a Twitter message for Nawaz, Ghani hoped that “the surgery goes alright” and prayed for PM’s “speedy recuperation”.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who is currently in London for medical check-up, will undergo an open-heart surgery on May 31, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif had said on Friday.

Asif said doctors had advised the prime minister to undergo the surgery, following which Nawaz will be staying in the hospital for a week.

“The prime minister will travel after one week, on doctor’s permission,” he added.

The daughter of prime minister, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, also confirmed that her father will undergo an open-heart surgery and appealed to the citizens to pray for his health and recovery.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his "best wishes" to Nawaz Sharif.

In a tweet posted on Saturday, Modi wished for the premier's "speedy recovery and good health".

The Indian premier tagged Maryam Nawaz, daughter of the prime minister, in his Twitter post.
