The ironic thing is that heat and thirst is killing people in Pakistan right now. And these nukes are supposed to protect them - but cannot satisfy the basic needs?
I'm sure that poor soul taking his last desperate breath, is not too proud of these Nukes.

I think Nukes are dangerous even for electricity but weapons should be banned in all countries asap. Just imagine if any country used it as a last hope of survival then not only theneighbouring countries would be destroyed but the whole world could be damaged permanently. We need to learn to live and let live.

Well what about yourself., according to you India is a prosperous country, then why in India heat and could claim hundreds of life every year. So rather then trying to be over clever, focus on your country, we can handle our issues.

The test is wrong. Turkey is a muslim majority country that also has nuclear weapons -- approximately 130 warheads at Incirlic base. The distinction is that the launch/detonation codes are under joint Turkish-US control.

Pakistani's nuclear assets is what is keeping Pakistan intact from aggressive neighbour like india. There is no doubt that the day we dump our nuclear program will be the very day india will opt for a misadventure into Pakistan. The health, education and other issues are in no way linked to our successful nuclear program. Why dont you ask yourself the all important question... Regardless of how less is allocated for education and health etc... How is that amount allocated and is it actually spent on what objective it is intended for??? It is a leaky bucket concept... no matter how much you put-in; it will all go to waste.
I , along with 99.99% of Pakistanis and many other Muslims around the globe, am proud of our nuclear and missile program. I hope to God we allocate more to develop it further.

@ Others - I do not think Indians won 1965 war. According to Pakistan,Kashmir is a disputed territory and according to India it is integral part of India and Pakistan has occupied a part of Kashmir. If that is a case then you Indians are big losers, could not get back your area from Pakistan.
1971 was a different situation. It was Indian conspiracy and took advantage of internal fight between East and West Pakistan. India is well known for its intriguing policies.

It is correct that India mastered its bomb in 1974 and we started in 1972; but this is also a fact that we started our program in response to India's; because we had the intelligence that India is in progress of mastering the technology with the covert help of some other nations and sooner or later it will complete. So by looking at the future Indian threat posture we decided to initiate our program also to deter India from taking any stupid and adventurous action against Pakistan.

@Kaiser That is pakistani rhetoric... When China exploded one in 1964, India had enough Uranium to explode one but we did not feel threatened by the Chinese nukes at that time. During 1971 war when US, UK came barreling down our throats with Nukes, Indian leaders realized what nuclear power meant in terms of deterrence and had to seek Russian help. That is when India nuclearized. It is funny that Pakistan seems to have selective amnesia about both Russia and China who also had nukes long before India had in 1974 and hides behind the geographic demarcation of South Asia; knowing well that both Russian and Chinese delivery systems could reach pakistan without any problem.

To all Indian Critics. According to UN report by Dr. Dean Nelson.
"In absolute terms, 41.6 per cent of India's 1.1 billion people earned less than 78 pence per day compared with 22.6 per cent of Pakistan's 173 million."
It's not something hidden that India has a more poorer population than Pakistan. Despite having higher GDP, FDI, exports and annual budget than Pakistan, India is unable to fight the hunger. What to talk about Pakistan which 1/5 in size of Indian in terms of population.
Some more statistics for your satisfaction (Nation Master)
India: Population below poverty line 29.8% Ranked 19th. 34% more than Pakistan
Pakistan|: 22.3% Ranked 2nd.

We absolutely need nuclear weapons to ensure our survival and security. Do we also need investment in education, health care and the economy? Of course we do, but how are dead people supposed to benefit from these things? Our existential security comes first; our education, health care and economy come second, that is a bitter pill we must swallow.

The money and resources Pakistan spends on its nuclear weapons is very small next to what it loses due to the corruption of our politicians and bureaucrats. There are poor people in Pakistan dying of hunger and thirst, but scrapping our nuclear arsenal is not going to feed them, ending the corruption of our government and strengthening our state institutions will. The link people draw between our nuclear weapons and our starving population is completely false and illogical.

@khan Turkey has a nuclear-sharing agreement with the US. That means American nuclear weapons are stationed in Turkish military bases to give a nuclear response to any nuclear aggression against Turkey. Those nuclear weapons are to be operated and controlled only by Americans. Countries like Germany, Italy and Japan have the same arrangement with the US, which is why those countries' security is completely assured, and those countries can afford to spend their resources on their economies instead of their militaries. That's why those countries are economically prosperous. By contrast, Pakistan is left to fend for itself against a horde of power and threatening enemies so it absolutely needs to invest in nukes first and education/health care/economy later.
