‘Govt wants to secure future of children’

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra awarded degrees to 300 students of different disciplines at the second convocation of Abaseen University Peshawar here on Tuesday.

The governor congratulated the gold medalists and their parents and announced an amount of Rs10,000 for each gold medalist graduate. He also prayed for the early recovery of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who underwent heart surgery on Tuesday in London.

Chancellor of the university Imran Khan, faculty members, parents, students and guests also attended the convocation, said a statement issued from the Governor’s House.

Addressing the convocation, the governor said that steps were being taken to ensure provision of better and higher education facilities to the students.

He said that youth should play a constructive role in development of the country. The governor said that militancy, lawlessness and deprivations were not the destiny of their next generation rather they needed favourable environment for a better future. He said that government was making concerted efforts to secure the future of the children.

The governor appreciated the efforts of administration of the university in providing better educational environment to the students. He urged the students to play a positive role in constructing better image of the society. He said that only educated youth could eradicate corruption from the society and bring positive change.

Imran Khan, the chancellor of the university, thanked the governor for attending the ceremony. He said that the university would continue to play its role in the betterment of the society and would not compromise on the standard.
