SIALKOT: The district administration has resumed free gynae operations in THQ hospitals of Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur tehsils after around a decade.

District Coordination Officer (DCO) Dr Asif Tufail told Dawn by phone that the gynae operations had been suspended several years ago due to non-availability of relevant doctors and surgeons, medical equipment and medicines.

He said now qualified doctors and surgeons had been posted at these THQ hospitals and provided with required surgical and medical equipment and medicines under the supervision of Executive District Officer (Health) Dr Javaid Warraich.

The DCO also said these facilities were available for free at Government Allama Iqbal Memorial DHQ / teaching hospital and Government Sardar Begum DHQ / teaching hospital due to which pregnant women from rural and remote areas had to travel to the city for availing maternity facilities.

“Now, the female patients are getting free gynae surgeries/operations at all four THQ hospitals,” he added.

ARRESTED: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested two proclaimed offenders (POs) in Sialkot.

FIA Divisional Deputy Director Khalid Anees said the agency had arrested human traffickers Naveed Tahir Mughal and son Fahad Naveed, both POs, from their outhouse in the Nasir Road locality.

He said the suspects were wanted by the FIA in different cases of human trafficking. He said the duo had been running an illegal business of sending people to European, African, Asian countries and Gulf states illegally on the pretext of getting them jobs after extorting huge amounts from them.

Anees said the FIA has sent the suspects behind bars after registering separate cases against them.

Further investigation is under way.
