KOHAT: Three people, including two brothers, were killed and one was injured when a truck overturned after hitting the toll plaza at Kohat Friendship Tunnel on the Indus Highway here on Saturday.

The traffic on the road remained suspended for a long time, resulting in long queues of vehicles on both sides of the toll plaza.

The road was cleared by the police rescue team after removing the truck.

The Riaz Mohammad police station officials said the truck loaded with groceries and coming Peshawar to Kohat met the accident after its brakes failed at the toll plaza.

The victims were identified as driver of the truck, Khaista Mir, his brother Tajid Mir and cousin, Sajidur Rehman, residents of Sheraki area of Darra Adamkhel. They died on the spot.

The bodies and the injured were taken to the KDA divisional hospital by the police and after autopsy the deceased were handed over to the relatives.

The police registered case and launched further investigations.

Meanwhile, unknown assailants shot dead a man named Shehryar in Happy Valley area, police said.

The victim was coming to Kohat bazaar from Jungle Khel area on a motorcycle.

Luqman, maternal uncle of the deceased, got a murder case registered against unknown assailants.

Following the incident, the police launched a search operation and took into custody several suspects.

MEAT OF DEAD ANIMALS SEIZED: The police on Saturday seized a huge quantity of meat of dead animals being smuggled from Peshawar into Kohat and arrested two accused persons.

The cantonment police signaled a pickup near the Ublan Afghan refugee camp for checking, and upon search found stinking cow meat in it.

The husbandry doctor was called in to check the meat who declared it of dead animals.

The smugglers were named Mohammad Iftikhar of Shino Khel and Waheed Khan of Behzadi Chakarkot areas of Kohat. Later, they were presented before a judge who sent them to Kohat prison.
