QUETTA: Suspected terrorists on Saturday morning blew up a portion of the railway track in the Bakhtiarabad area of Balochistan's Bolan district.

Levies' sources told Dawn that a two-feet portion of the track was damaged when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detonated in Kolpur area of district Bolan. The IED was planted close to the railway track which was damaged when the explosion occurred.

Train services between Balochistan and other parts of the country were suspended after the blast and passenger trains were stopped at different locations owing to security reasons.

Levies and Frontier Corps personnel reached the spot to launch an investigation into the incident. Pakistan Railways technical staff was also called to ensure immediate repair of the damaged portion of the track.

Bolan is considered as among the sensitive and troubled districts of Balochistan where militants have been targeting security forces and vital national installations for over a decade.

Last year in April, at least 17 people, two women and four children among them, were burned to death and over 45 were injured in a powerful explosion in a carriage of a Rawalpindi-bound train at a station in Sibi.

The blast had taken place at a time when President Mamnoon Hussain was in Quetta on a two-day visit.
