RAWALPINDI: A high-level meeting comprising top civil and military leadership held at General Headquarters (GHQ) discussed issues pertaining to national security on Tuesday, an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement said.
Those present at the meeting include Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, Foreign Secretary Aizaz Chaudhry, Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif, Director-General Inter-Services Intelligence Lt-Gen Rizwan Akhtar and other senior military officials at GHQ.
The participants underlined that hostile intelligence agencies and their facilitators would not be allowed to "foment trouble inside Pakistan", the ISPR said.
Issues relating to the country's internal and external security, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, were also discussed.
Participants expressed concern over the May 21 US drone strike targeting former Afghan Taliban chief Mullah Mansour in Balochistan, saying it was a clear violation of Pakistan's sovereignty, affected mutual trust and undermined the spirit of the Afghan peace process under the mutually agreed framework decided by the Quadrilateral Coordination Group.
The meeting also took cognisance of ongoing regional developments and inimical designs against the country's stability and prosperity.
The leadership resolved to protect the country's core national interests and effectively counter negative external influence.
The meeting comes as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is recovering from open-heart surgery in London. Nawaz was discharged from the hospital on Monday after a week-long stay following his surgery.
He will be overseeing the affairs of government from London, according to the PM House media cell, and is expected to return to Pakistan before the end of Ramazan.

Gentlemen, India is changing its position and strategy at very fast pace. They are spreading their wings and making their place in Gulf countries, who is responsible for giving them space? while our PM and other civil leadership is only interested in CPEC, London and Istanbul tours only. @FutureWizard Sir India is way ahead from Pak in science and technology. There democracy has strong roots and most of leader at high ranks are answerable to pubic. Here in Pak we have no Hospitals even to treat the 3rd time prime minster.

Pakistan and India need to open their border so that visitors from both side can visit without much hassle. The amount of Indian travelers/tourists would be huge judging from the curiosity and intrigue we have for each others countries. Judging from the number of Indian visitors who visit Dawn sites, even a fraction of it would suffice for the dwindling tourism industry in Pakistan.

We are all speechless. If it is a high level meeting concerning SECURITY then why tell the world at large along with the pictures of the participants in the meeting.
Why not publish their names and where they live too, so the foreign agents ( and we know that our capital is swimming with agents) will know who to to put under surveillance?

People of country ensure its safety, counter intelligence and eyes on suspicious persons. Hard work pay for progress. Honestly paying taxes and ensuring corruption free society makes a nation great. People must ensure checks on civic discipline where no policemen ask bribe, encroach land, have clear roads and free movement of traffic and people on each road upto your house.

In mature democracies, the military should be a strong, but invisible force. Only then can a nation develop. Just look at India for example. How many of us can name any of their generals. I would suspect that even their own citizens will not be able to name any of their generals. Yet, in our country our generals are given more prominent media coverage than our political leaders. That is not a sign of a healthy democracy.

@vijay This is because of the fact that PM Nawaz sons have huge stakes in Britain. Pakistan does have some great pool of doctors and hospitals here in this country. Many politicians were admitted and recovered from local hospitals. Like Imran Khan had two operations in Shaukat Khanum(SKMH). Check AKUH, DOW university of health science, SIUT, INDUS hospital website and dozens of others. OMI Karachi, Kidney center, NICVD Karachi and many dozens more.

Pakistan needs to take an assertive attitude in its foreign relationship with other countries. Specially towards hostile and enemy countries that are trying to destabilize Pakistan. It makes one think as to for how many years such terrorists and spies have been infiltrating into country and why interior ministry with police was unable to catch them.

Our Fed government policies toward smaller provinces is so bad that one feels the bureaucrats in Islamabad are playing in the hands of foreign agencies. Over the last fifty years what the Fed bureaucracy has done to achieve harmony and peace amongst the provinces, rather the bureaucracy has created divisions and resentment in the country.

The civilians could not match the military values of sacrifices,unity,self-discipline,e.g.in US military has effectively addressed the two great plaques of society,drug abuse,& racial tensions,also US military doing better jobs in other areas where society is faltering,including education,realistic training as NTC(National Training Center)JRTC (Joint Readiness Trainng Center)and CMTC (Combat Maneauvor Training Center)where soldiers live in field and conduct bloodless fight against well trained rivals.The standard of test for Armed Services Vocational is so high that graduates from certain high schools failed to pass the military entrance exam,although it simply include test of reading,writing,and arithmetic skills,this obviously reflects that military is now far better educated than the general population.
Now in Pakistan our military is far more educated than our population or what you say as "civilian ruling elite"and these days people only likes & looks at Army as messiah.

People are fickle they support PML-N and PPP knowing their historic unprecedented ventures in corruption... yet they vote, no body comes out on the street or object... We keep on saluting useless politicians...

@immo ; Dear Sir, India is still work in progress but in right direction. The results will be visible surely in next 15 years or so and cynics like will be shocked.
But even today the development in India in the field of medical care, education, Space technology is way ahead of Pakistan. Just by visiting a country and walking around streets will not give any perspective of the country except whats visible on the street. The visibility on the street will surely change in 15 years. Mark my words...
