SUKKUR: 9 protesting workers arrested

SUKKUR, Nov 22: Nine workers of the Fauji Fertilizer Corporation were arrested in Mirpur Mathelo on Saturday during a demonstration against the mill management for failing to pay dues of the compulsory retired employees.

Those arrested include Bashir Jalbani, Sikandar Sial, Makhno Malik, Jan Mohammad Abbasi, Sukhio Lashari, Rajab Lashari, Habibullah, Hameed Naich and others.

Labour union leader, Noor Mohammad Haideri, told this correspondent by telephone that workers were baton charged by the Mirpur Mathelo police at the main gate of the FFC.

He said families of the workers were starving due to non payment of dues and added they even could not celebrate Eid.

BOYS DIE: Two boys were killed in an accident near Beri Chowk, Rohri on Saturday evening.

Nadeem, 15, and Muneer Bhatti, residents of Loung Bhatti village, were going on a motorcycle to their home. A wagon coming from the opposite direction hit them as a result of which the boys died on the spot.

On receiving news, relatives of the dead boys and hundreds of other villagers rushed to the scene and blocked the road. As a result, entire traffic between Rohri and Sukkur came to a halt.
