SAHIWAL: The district police re-arrested Waseem Mallah, head of “Chhura group”, from his residence 86/6-R, Kot Khadim Ali Shah, on the night between Monday and Tuesday.

Waseem, who was arrested along with his two accomplices by the Farid Town police for his involvement in several cases of injuring women at deserted places in the city from January to October 2015, got bail and was released from the Central Jail two days ago. Police re-arrested the three accused.

Earlier, DPO Baqir Shah had told reporters that Waseem confessed to injuring more than 15 women with blades in various parts of the city.

A source told Dawn that police had taken the gangsters into custody to prevent any incident of injuring women during Ramazan and Eid shopping. No official confirmed taking Waseem into custody.

The Chhura group emerged in 2013 in Chichawatni city, where two motorcyclists started injuring girls and women with sharp blade at some deserted place. Such incidents continued and police arrested many suspects. The same crime pattern started in Sahiwal city, where several incidents took place and 12 people reported the matter to police stations.

In October 2015, police arrested three youngsters and recovered blades, sharp knives, gloves and a motorcycle they used to commit crime. Police interrogated them and produced them in court after confirmation of their involvement in the crime.
