MARDAN: Two persons were killed and another one was injured in two incidents here on Friday.

Officials of Recuse-122 said that Huzaifa, 7, drowned in a nullah near Bilal Mosque Road.

The minor belonged to Rawalpindi who along with his family members was visiting their relatives here.

The rescue personnel recovered the body from the nullah and handed it over to the family.

In the second incident, a speeding truck hit two motorcyclists coming from the opposite side on Mardan-Malakand road in Jala area.

As a result, one motorcyclist was killed on the spot while the other one received injuries.

The victim and injured were identified as Maqsood (20) and Anees Khan, repsctively. Anees was taken to Takhtbai hospital for treatment.

The Shergar police station has lodged an FIR on the complaint of Anees against the truck driver.

POWER PLANT: Officials of Abdul Wali Khan University, Mardan, have claimed that the under-construction project of 2.5 megawatts power plant on the varsity premises will start generating electricity by coming September.

In this regard, vice-chancellor Prof Ihsan Ali chaired a meeting, which was attended by CEO Mohammad Imran and project manager Naveed Khan of Thai Group of Companies and other relevant officials here on Friday.

Mr Imran told the meeting that work was in progress on the powerhouse, which would generate 2.5 megawatts of electricity for the university.

The VC said that the university had the capacity to accommodate about 40,000 students in future and the establishment of power plant was of great importance in this regard.
