It has three faculties -- bio-sciences, veterinary sciences and animal production and technology, 18 departments.

Project Director Dr Rizwan Yousaf said this in a presentation given to the steering committee on “Establishment of the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Bahawalpur,” at the UVAS here on Monday.

MPA Khalid Mahmood Jajja presided over the meeting.

Dr Yousaf briefed the committee on the development work and said the varsity would also have teaching and research centres on dairy cattle, beef animals, sheep and goats, camels, poultry, pet and wildlife, a central disease diagnostic laboratory, 16 departmental laboratories, a veterinary teaching hospital, pet and wild animal hospital and a computer laboratory along with library, student-teacher centre, seminar rooms, auditorium, sports complex, besides residential facilities for staff and students.

The project is being executed by the UVAS, in collaboration with two Turkish varsities -- Selcuk University and Ankara University. It will be funded by the Livestock and Dairy Development Department, Punjab.

On the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said the varsity would exploit the livestock potential of the area and provide opportunities to the poor farmers and people of Bahawalpur to add to their incomes.
